Why starting age varies

There is no single age that fits every child. Some children follow sounds and rhythms early; others are ready for a regular lesson structure a little later. The decision should be based on the child, not only on a number.

At our studio, programmes begin from age 6. We also look at attention, the ability to follow simple directions, complete a short task and show interest in the instrument.

Signs of readiness

Enjoying songs or showing curiosity about the piano is a promising sign, but it is not the whole picture. Being able to sit for a short activity, follow simple directions and return to a task makes the lesson process easier.

  • Natural interest in music and sound
  • Ability to follow short instructions
  • Focus for a fifteen- to twenty-minute activity
  • Willingness to try short practice at home

How families can help

Families do not need to correct every mistake. Their role is to make regular practice easier: keep the instrument accessible, choose a predictable time and notice small progress. In the first weeks, a secure relationship with the teacher, rhythm and the instrument matters more than playing long pieces.

Frequently asked questions

Is six a suitable age for piano?

It can be for many children. We consider attention, following directions and interest together.

Can a child start without knowing notes?
